Get Back to Where you Once Belonged: Your Passions

By George Black | Greater Fulfillment

Has this ever happened to you? Before you start your day, you have these aspirational things you’re excited to work on.

Like the other week, I was all fired up to start the day by engaging on a particular marketing strategy.

I know this strategy is key to my Next Level which is sourced in my passions. So, I was excited to work on it, because it’s moving me in the direction of my passion.

But as I began working, it felt like it was a magnet to every distraction imaginable.

What’s worse, these distractions were legitimate: a tax form needed to be filed, several emails needed an immediate response, then came a meeting that had been scheduled, by that point I was so far into the day I concluded:

Well, I might as well clear other stuff off “my plate” today and
work on that strategy tomorrow.

My Confession...

Two weeks went by and I never got back to working on that strategy. Which I know is the only thing that matters, after all I’ve written the book! The Next Level Entrepreneur.

It’s like the “urgent day to day stuff” becomes a dictator, a despot brutally ruling and must be obeyed at all cost.

“The important things”, like strategy are mere suggestions that can be put off, sometimes forever.

I even wrote in my book: “…most wars are won or lost at the strategic level, not the tactical level.” I know that the same is true for success in business.

But there is more to just knowing this,
I must do something.

What I do when I’m buried in the urgency of the day to day grind:

I pause and reflect on my direction, my Next Level, my envision sentence. What’s my passion?

Even as I write this, I can feel its calming and rejuvenating affect.

Next, I review my strategies of how I’m going to get there.

Then, I focus on the one strategy I need to accomplish now. In my case that marketing strategy.

What typically happens is that strategy actually becomes both urgent and important. And all that other “false” urgent day to day stuff begins to lose its power over me.

As I say in the video,

“this isn’t just about thinking about strategy, it’s about doing strategy.”

My "Strategy Workouts"!

So, I return to my “strategy workouts” which I do 2 or 3 times a week.

Just like working out in the gym a few times a week is better than spending one whole day in the gym once a month; the same holds true with my strategy workouts.

Give it a try. And like me, I believe you will begin to transcend the urgency of the day to day grind.

Even better as you begin operating with strategy
you will find more
focus, clarity, passion, and energy.

Are you up to this challenge? Give it a try, and let me know how it goes for you!

And, check out the video below, as I talk with Garrett about overcoming the day to day grind and building a great company.
